The Island - Ireland

Northern Ireland, July 2008

My impression of that beautiful country shown as a collage.

What do you think?

The West, June 2008

In June my friends and I discovered a little part in the West of Ireland where we found wonderful places to stay and relax.

After we arrived at Dublin Airport we hired a car to head west. We went to Galway where we stayed the first night. Galway is a lovely town; you may find the "real" Irish way of life. Due to the students Galway seems to be forever young, even the area itself is quite old.

Be the way I found flax in Galway that was really amazing. But the plant is probably completely different to the one in New Zealand.

The next day we left Galway to head to Connemara, a special and well known landscape in Western Ireland.

Kylemore Abbey is located close to the Connemara National Park. It is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle. So this is not a real old building, but I made nice pictures as you see.

We spent the night in Westport, a town in county Mayo. Westport has a gracious centre in the Georgian architectural style, as one of the few planned towns in the country. The next day we continued our tour to the village Boyle to visit the two famous sights: Boyle Abbey and King House.

Not to get stuck in a traffic jam we went back to Dublin for more sightseeing and to watch the match "Germany against Poland".

By the way I found all information for the little weekend trip from the webpage http://www.discoverireland.com/nz/.
